Helping successful women lawyers become rainmakers
Preparing For Rain Program

Preparing for Rain is a yearlong business development training program designed to introduce women senior associates or new partners to the basics of business development.  In the course of the program, they will:

  • Articulate their vision for their practice
  • Learn to focus their efforts on marketing activities most likely to produce results
  • Strengthen their relationships with clients, colleagues, and referral sources
  • Recognize the importance of building their brand
  • Improve their ability to market internally
  • Understand the importance of consistent follow-up
  • Learn how to make the most of common business development activities
  • Identify ways to find time for business development

Participants will learn and practice the fundamentals of effective business development, increase their confidence and enthusiasm for business development, and get to know other members of the group for future cross-selling efforts.

How It Works

The program is delivered in 11 hour-long, monthly sessions.  The program is kicked off by a presentation by Sara Holtz on Making Rain: The Keys to Effective Business Development.  Sessions 2-11 are delivered in small groups of 8-12 women lawyers.  These groups are facilitated by a partner and/or a member of you firm’s professional development or business development staff.

Facilitators are trained by Sara Holtz. During the training, Sara will familiarize the facilitators with the content and goals of the program.  Because facilitators receive a detailed guide outlining each session (“a session in a box”), the amount of time needed to prepare and deliver each session is modest: about one hour to prepare for each session and one hour to conduct the session.
